RoboSpect is an innovative robotic system solution that autonomously inspects natural gas pipelines using a trenchless strategy. The project is funded by the ARPA-E REPAIR program under the U.S. Department of Energy, and is being built by Master’s in Robotic Systems Development students at Carnegie Mellon University’s Robotics Institute. The RoboSpect Team is designing and building a wheeled-robot that will autonomously explore pipelines without ground dig-ups, using sensor fusion to perceive inside the pipe and traverse using mapping, localization, and intelligent path planning techniques.
