Setup
System | Scorpion platform with sensor assemblies and user interface installed. The system is pre-initialized before the test begins. |
Test Area | In the grass field at the NREC campus, 10 targets are buried in a 5 x 5m area to a range of depths, up to a maximum of 10cm. The targets consist of 5 hollow steel tubes to represent landmines and 5 metallic non-cylindrical objects to represent debris. The cavity in the steel tubes is filled with putty before burial. The area is divided into 5 x 1m wide lanes with flags at the ends. The right-hand lane is free of any buried objects. The coordinates of the area to be covered are entered before the test begins. |
SVE Demo Area | The SVE Demo Area is a subset of the Test Area, which consists of a single 5 x 1m lane which contains 2 landmine targets and 2 non-landmine targets. |
Procedure
1 | Operator A presses the “Start Survey” button on the UI and pushes the cart along a predefined path of known length (D.N.1). At the same time, a test assistant measures the time taken for the cart to reach the end of the path and verifies that the rate of coverage exceeds 3m²/min (M.N.3). | ☐ |
2 | The operator then enters the SVE Demo Area and pushes the cart. While pushing the cart, a target may be detected at any time. Operator A responds to the signals on the UI as appropriate. | ☐ |
3 | When the survey is complete, Operator B presses the “Generate Report” button on the UI. | ☐ |
4 | Using the report and data from tests performed prior to SVE, Operator B verifies that at least 4 of the 5 simulated landmines were correctly classified (M.F.1). | ☐ |
5 | Using the report and data from tests performed prior to SVE, Operator B verifies that at least 3 of the 5 simulated debris objects were correctly classified (M.F.2). | ☐ |
6 | Using the report, Operator B verifies that the time of classification for each detected object was no more than 5 minutes (M.N.4). | ☐ |
7 | Using the report, Operator B verifies that the maximum distance between the pre-entered landmine locations and the locations of the objects identified as landmines is <100cm (D.F.1) | ☐ |
8 | Using the report, Operator B verifies that the maximum distance between the pre-entered lane locations and the vehicle’s recorded path is <100cm (D.F.2). | ☐ |
9 | Test assistant A measures the maximum distance between the true locations of the targets identified as landmines and the corresponding ground marking made during the survey and verifies it is <10cm (M.F.4). | ☐ |
10 | Test assistants B and C remove the buried simulated landmines from the ground and verify that no impressions were made on the top surface (M.F.3). | ☐ |
11 | Operator B shows a log of prior system operation and verifies that the difference between timestamps of an initial detection by the metal detector and brake activation is <0.25s (M.F.5). | ☐ |
12 | Operator B presents a record of expenditure of <$5000 (M.N.1). | ☐ |
13 | Operator B shows a log of prior system operation for a continuous period of >1hr (M.N.2). | ☐ |
14 | Operator B presents a photo of the weighing of each individual component assembly, showing that each is <50kg (D.N.2). | ☐ |
