Test setup – The FVE is split between two locations. Tests 1 and 2 take place at the soil test pit in the NSH basement. Test 3 takes place under the Pausch Bridge next to the Volleyball Court. The setup for Tests 1 and 3 is depicted in the relevant section. The objects for each test are buried in advance of the test. The requirements to be validated are variants on the final system requirements specifically for the Fall.
Additional equipment – Laptops, 12V batteries, garden tools to bury objects, tools to reconfigure system
Test 1 – Probing Unit
M.F.2 – Correctly classifies 2 out of 3 initial detections that are landmines as such.
M.F.3 – Correctly classifies 2 out of 3 initial detections that are NOT landmines as such.
Test 1 Procedure | |
---|---|
1.a | Operator A turns on the system, waits for the probes to traverse the pit, acquiring surface contact data for all objects, and then turns off the system. |
1.b | Operator B shows the classification results of probed objects on a laptop and verifies that they match the item type. |
Test 2 – Localization
D.F.1 – Records area covered by system on digital map to an accuracy of 50cm.
Test 2 Procedure | |
---|---|
2. | Operator C shows the display of pre-recorded pose estimation data traversing the athletic field with an max error of less than 50cm. |
Test 3 – Metal Detector
M.F.1 – Detects 4 out of 5 landmines in a grassy field buried to a maximum depth of 15cm.
Test 3 Procedure | |
---|---|
3.a | Operator D turns on the system and manually pushes it across the length of the lane, demonstrating the metal detector sweeping action. |
3.b | Operator E shows the locations of detected objects on a laptop and verifies that they are within a radial accuracy of 10cm to the actual locations. |
