MRSD 2015 Team F : ADD_IN


ADD_IN is a Human-Robot Additive Manufacturing System.

3D printing technology, over the last few years, has carved a place for itself in the field of rapid prototyping and manufacturing, making it thoroughly easy to print complex structures with increasing precision. Today, it is possible to print 3D structures of different materials such as plastic, ceramic and metal. Where it lacks however, is the capability to incorporate foreign/non printable items into its manufacturing process. To fill this gap, we propose ADD_IN. ADD_IN is a Human-Robot Additive Manufacturing System that can encase Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) components seamlessly within its printed structure. Our goal is to allow humans to assemble COTS components onto a partially printed surface with the help of guiding features. As 3D printing is steadily making its move from prototyping to assembly line production, we believe that the success of our project will be a big leap up this path.
