Rathin Shah

Technical Lead: Mechanics, Controls

Rathin graduated with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and a minor in Robotics. He was captain of college’s BAJA team and worked on making the vehicle autonomous. He has 3+ years of industry experience in domains of planning and controls for mobile robots. With these experiences, he brings to the team a strong knowledge of dynamics and controls along with vehicle development experience.

Yilin Cai

Technical Lead: Simulation and Estimation

Background: Mechanical Engineering

Yilin graduated from Shanghai Jiao Tong University with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. He had more than two years research experience in surgical robotics and continuum robotics. He is now focusing on research topics like estimation and planning of medical robots in the Biorobotics Lab at CMU. He carries project experiences with robot system design, modeling and control.

Nick Carcione

Technical Lead: Control, Mechanics

Background: Mechanical Engineering, Business

Nick graduated from the Ohio State University with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and a minor in Business as a member of the Integrated Business and Engineering Program in 2021.  He has previous experience doing mechanical design and controls for automated foundry equipment.  With these experiences, he brings a strong knowledge of mechanics and the ability to think at a higher system level.

Jiayi Qiu

Technical Lead: Planning

Background: Electronic Information Engineering

Jiayi graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen with a B.S. in Electronic Information Engineering in 2020. She has two years of experience as an Undergraduate Research Assistant in an autonomous sailboat team, working on algorithm development and propulsive system development. Before coming to CMU, she worked as a robotics engineer intern in industrial robotic arm filed and had experience on motion planning.

Kelvin Shen

Technical Lead: Vision

Background: Electrical and Computer Engineering

Kelvin graduated from the University of California, San Diego with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering in 2021. Before coming to CMU, he worked as a Research Assistant on perception and motion planning in the field of surgical robotics at UCSD. Now he continues research activities on lifelong/continual learning at CMU Argo AI Center for Autonomous Vehicle Research. He carries project experiences working with machine learning, computer vision, and software engineering skills.
